Understand How to Measure and Use DEI Data
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) are critical concepts for a strong, stable, child welfare workforce. Measuring these concepts sheds light on the environment of an agency and whether employees feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and experiences. The QIC-WA is committed to helping agencies collect and use DEIB data. This tip sheet, developed by the Quality Improvement Center for Workforce Development, provides a starting point by defining diversity, equity, and inclusion and linking to resources that provide examples of how to measure those concepts. Another resource, written by our partner, Mattingly Solutions, says that “utilizing data is crucial for understanding the effectiveness of DEI initiatives and ensuring meaningful progress.” They provide tips on how data can be used to guide DEI efforts.
Belonging in the workplace is an employee’s sense that their uniqueness is accepted and even treasured by their organization and colleagues
“Belonging in the workplace is an employee’s sense that their uniqueness is accepted and even treasured by their organization and colleagues,” according to Tony Bond, the executive vice president, chief diversity and innovation officer of Great Place to Work®. The QIC-WA includes belonging in its DEI-related work and seeks to develop and share resources, such as an organizational assessment to land an employee survey, that will help child welfare agencies increase their understanding of these measures and use them to support workforce well-being.
